November 2026: Library Finds

"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His love endures forever." Psalm 136:1

What are you thankful for? I'm guessing if your list is like mine there are too many items to name them all. God has blessed us so richly!

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this month, we are reminded of how God has blessed our country as well. Stories of the early Pilgrims and the Native Americans who helped them are important so that we remember God's provision. Thankfully, our library is full of wonderful books that can allow you to travel back in time. Below is just a sampling of them.

For our youngest readers, This First Thanksgiving Day: A Counting Story by Laura Melmed is a picture book (F PIC) that illustrates life for both Pilgrims and Native Americans while allowing kids to practice counting.

For older readers, the historical fiction section of the library, specifically HF 1620, has a number of books that allow kids to learn about the time period while also enjoying a good story. A few titles to check out include The Mayflower Adventure, Three Young Pilgrims, and The Landing of the Pilgrims.

If your children enjoy biographies, the library offers several great reads including Squanto: Friend of the Pilgrims (BIO 1580), The Mayflower Secret: Introducing Governor William Bradford (BIO 1590), and John Alden: Steadfast Pilgrim (BIO 1599). Biographies are also really good read-aloud books.

Last, but certainly not least, are the nonfiction books including William Bradford and Plymouth: A Colony Grows (974.4), Pilgrim Voices: Our First Year in the New World (974.4), and If You Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 (973.22).

So thankful for the many great books to enjoy throughout November!

As I close, I also want to say "thank you" to our wonderful library volunteers—Angela, Toni, Kristin, Maybelline, Karen, and Ayvee. I am so grateful for them and the work they do for the library. I am also extremely grateful for you, our library members, and your love for virtuous books.

We do hope you will come check out the library in November and find some great books for your family!

Happy reading!
