Freedom to Learn

Written by Angela Pilcher

Each July, as we celebrate our nation's independence, I'm reminded that the freedoms we cherish today were purchased at a tremendous cost. As a former Army soldier and now a homeschooling mom, I have a deep appreciation for the men and women who have willingly sacrificed their comfort, their time with family, and, for many, even their lives so that generations to come could live in freedom.

One of those precious freedoms is the ability to direct the education of our children. Here in America, we have the privilege of choosing the educational path that best fits our families. We also benefit from the tireless work of legislators, legal advocates, and homeschool pioneers who fought to protect parents' rights and secure the freedoms we enjoy today.

Those blessings should never be taken for granted.

Freedom also calls us to responsibility. It reminds us that we are not simply raising educated children, we are raising the next generation of citizens, leaders, neighbors, and servants. They are watching how we use the freedoms we've been given and whether we steward them with gratitude, wisdom, and courage.

At Unite Homeschool Network, we believe no family is meant to homeschool alone.

We are better together.

When we encourage one another, mentor new homeschooling families, share our experiences, and build meaningful community, we strengthen not only our own families but the homeschool movement as a whole.

This Independence Day, let us pause to give thanks—for those who sacrificed to preserve our liberty, for the freedoms protected by our Constitution and our state laws, and for the opportunity to educate our children according to our convictions.

May we continue to stand together, support one another well, and faithfully pass both our freedoms and our values to the generations that follow.

Happy Independence Day from all of us at Unite Homeschool Network!
